Fall, 2009

Welcome Picnic at Greece Canal Park
Sunday, Sept. 13
3:00–7:00 pm.

Welcome to Rochester with an opportunity to meet international students from around the city, socialize with RIC members, enjoy sports, nature trails, and a barbecue with lots of good food.  The park is located at 241 Elmgrove Road, Greece. Sign up in ISO or ISS for a ride.  

Public Market Tour
Date to be Determined

Discover an inexpensive source of produce from local farms, foods from around the world, and a gathering of Rochesterians from around the world.   Sign up in ISO or ISS for tour.

Square Dance at the Barn
Friday, October 2
7:00 – 10:00 pm.

This event is held at the home of RIT President, Dr. Destler (2201 Lehigh Station Road).   Learn traditional American folk dance and celebrate a new academic year.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes to dance on a wooden floor.  Light refreshments.  RIT students can sign up in ISS for a ride. 

Fall Hike to Letchworth
Saturday, October 10
10:00 am– 4:30pm

Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East!  Ride a charter bus into the country to enjoy the Fall color, gather in the parking lot for lunch, then hike to see several spectacular waterfalls.  Wear study shoes to hike, for it is rocky and sometimes wet.  Non-refundable $10 charge required for bus and luncheon reservation.      

RIC Benefit Concert
Saturday, October 17

Join us for an evening of international music and dance. Proceeds fund RIC programs for international students.
         
Mt. Hope Cemetery Tour & Afternoon Tea
Sunday, October 25

Celebrate Halloween by meeting at our most famous cemetery at 1:00 pm for a stroll through the past, North Gatehouse on Mt. Hope Ave.  A local historian provides a humorous history of the Rochester area and its famous citizens.  Gather in a nearby home afterward for tea, cakes and conversation.  Limit 25 participants – sign up required.    Email Terry May at may@sjfc.edu.
      
Thanksgiving Dinner
Thursday, November 26

RIC members and friends in the Rochester area invite students into their homes to share in this traditional holiday feast.. International students join American families for this traditional celebration.  Sign up in RIC office by November 18th (275-8779).
