Rochester
has a unique and impressive history in photograph, xerography, and optics,
as well as outstanding educational resources in both traditional and
emerging technologies. Rochester is recognized as home to corporate
giants Eastman Kodak, Xerox Corporation and Bausch and Lomb. Because
of spin-offs and incubator projects supported by these corporations,
Rochester includes hundreds of small to medium high-tech companies.
The Greater Rochester Metro Chamber of Commerce's partnerships with business, government, education and allied groups account for a wide range of successful results. A new $6 million High Technology Enterprise Center is an example of public/private partnership, providing an optimal growth environment for emerging high-tech companies and serving as a hub for increasing numbers of software development companies. Leadership in industry and excellence in education has earned Rochester its title, "The World's Image Centre". Frontier Corporation - Among the country's largest long-distance companies in America, this progressive telephone company has become a leading provider of integrated communication services including internet access and high speed data usage over existing telephone lines Greater Rochester Metro Chamber of Commerce - providing technical assistance and support for businesses to grow. The Rochester area out-exports 40 states and is the number one exporting community per capita in the USA. Moscom Corporation - Provides telecommunication billing systems for telephone companies, hotels and business, and telephony giants such as Lucent Corporation. Redcom Laboratories, Inc. - is known in the telephony industry for its ability to produce, install and support entire telephone systems anywhere in the world. Technicians have canoed and backpacked into remote locations to establish service to isolated communities both in third world countries and North America. Rochester Institute of Technology - Internationally recognized as a leader in imaging and technology with an established tradition of excellence in professional and career-oriented education. Programs include software engineering, imaging science, and information technology. RIT's $16 million expansion and upgrade of its computer network puts it in the internet superhighway's fast lane. Time Warner Corporation - an established presence in the cable television world, Time Warner has now entered the internet arena with a superspeed modem product called RoadRunner.
