International Wives

For over 30 years American women in Rochester have been meeting with women from many countries to help with adjusting to life in the United States.

This program provides social interaction for wives of international students at both the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology. Meetings are held in the homes of the international members and we also do outings to places of interest. The women have the opportunity to share their cultures with others from around the world, learn more about American life, and participate in discussions about holidays and popular tourist attractions. Socialization and the chance to hear and speak English are other benefits. Children are always welcome at our meetings resulting in meetings that are very casual and usually very loud and lively.

Please join us for friendship with other wives and the American leaders of the group,(who have lots of advice to give) and to learn about American life and culture, have an opportunity to use your English and improve it, learn some simple crafts and make friends with other international women. Our frequent cooking classes are very popular, everyone gets to help and everyone gets to taste!

Our major method of communication is by e-mail, it is easy to reach the group to advise them of meetings and special events. It also provides a way for members to ask for information, directions etc. Transportation can usually be arranged.

Contact the RIC Office for more information

If you are an international wife "please join us." If you are host family to a student with a wife "please bring her". If you think this would be a great volunteer activity for you "please let us know."
